About Us

The Delton Student Learning Organization connects volunteers with students at Delton Elementary School in Edmonton, Alberta to improve the progression of their learning with the support of school staff.

Our volunteers work directly with students to form meaningful relationships and experiences. Volunteers get to experience the high-energy fun of an elementary school classroom while developing leadership and communication skills with youth.

As a volunteer, you could expect to work 1-on-1 with a variety of students, primarily in the subjects of English language, math, and science.

Who We Are

At the Delton Student Learning Organization, we are focused on increasing the equity of opportunity for elementary students in inner-city Edmonton.

Many of the students we support have complex backgrounds and complex learning needs. The need for additional learning support is magnified as we emerge from the pandemic and are forced to react to the effects it has had on student learning, socialization, and confidence.

We work in conjunction with school staff to provide students with personal classroom attention and serve as positive role models. Most of all, we aim to foster a fun, inclusive classroom dynamic, encouraging our students to set their goals high and work hard towards achieving them!

Meet The Team

We founded the DSLO with the goal of providing equitable academic support and mentorship in the classroom. Reflecting on our own academic and athletic experiences, we feel fortunate to have had student teachers and young mentors involved in our lives.

Unfortunately, not all students have access to these same privileges. We are motivated to pay forward the opportunities we had by building positive relationships in the classroom to make a meaningful impact in our community.

Get Involved!

The Delton Student Learning Association is actively looking for new volunteers to join our team. We are looking for responsible, committed, passionate volunteers who are interested in making a positive impact on youth within a classroom environment.

Volunteers will work in groups of 2-3 and gain valuable hands-on experience working with children both 1-on-1 and in groups beneath the guidance of school staff. We are able to offer flexible scheduling, verification of all volunteer hours, and letters of reference upon request.
